edition: unframed open edition print
print size: 21" x 10"
image size: 21" x 10"
finish: canvas-textured finish
Print is first mounted onto 3/16" foam board, then finished with a high-quality canvas-textured laminate finish. This gives the finished print the appearance of being printed on canvas. The laminate also protects the surface of the print and makes it easier to view in settings where glass would cause reflection problems.
Based on the account in Joseph Smith—History 1:15–17, this painting portrays the moment Joseph Smith saw the First Vision. Rane captures the wonder Joseph must have felt as he received an answer to his prayer to know which church was true. The barren nature of the forest and lack of leaves on the trees help convey the portentousness of the experience. Rane used his fourth son, who was 13 at the time, as a model for Joseph.
